Public housing estate residents are sought to participate in journalism training start on Oct.
Yarra Reporter is an Infoxchange Australia’s initiative to train Collingwood, Atherton Gardens and Richmond’s public housing estate residents on civic journalism.
The training will offer journalism skills to residents that will enable them to professionally report on peoples’ stories on social issues that affect theirs and peoples’ livelihood and community events in their neighbourhood.
The project aims to build capacity of the estate residents’ literacy, provide support for culturally diverse communities and socially disadvantaged within City of Yarra and will actively engage them in activities through story coverage.
How long is the training?
The training will be scheduled in September 08 and will be ended in February 09; it will be 5 months in total.
What will I learn?
As a participant, you will learn on how to cover stories as a journalist. It includes on how to find story ideas, to conduct interviews and to write news stories. At the end the training, participants will be streamlined into video, audio or print journalism.
How can I participate?
To participate in the journalism training is free as long as you are successfully selected. To participate you need to be:
Residents of Richmond, Collingwood or Atherton Gardens public housing estates.
Willing to fully and actively participate in the project.
Having at least Victoria Certificate of Education (VCE) certificate or equivalent.
