Every couple of years, under the guidance of the University of Melbourne, Atherton Gardens residents conduct 300 surveys on the estate to find out what residents see as community strengths and key problems. Read on to download the latest survey results.
Please see the attached document for a summary of the second community survey conducted by residents as part of the Atherton Gardens Neighbourhood Renewal project. Neighbourhood Renewal is a partnership between government, residents, & local organisations to reduce disadvantage. Every couple of years, under the guidance of the University of Melbourne, Atherton Gardens residents conduct 300 surveys on the estate to find out what residents see as community strengths and key problems. 17 Atherton Gardens residents were trained and conducted the 2006 survey on the estate in 9 different languages.
The results of this survey have been used to develop the latest Community Action Plan (see previous article) and address the 6 action areas that Neighbourhood Renewal aims to improve
1) Housing and the physical environment
2) Community safety and crime prevention
3) Employment and education opportunitites
4) Health and wellbeing
5) Community pride & participation
6) Responsiveness of and access to services.
