Infoxchange, in partnership with the Victorian Government Neighbourhood Renewal program and ThoughtWorks Australia, were crowned winners of the national Australia Community iAward at a Gala Ceremony in Melbourne this week.
Organised by the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) the iAwards are Australia's leading information and communication technology industry awards, and the Community iAward is one of the top 5 honours.
The award recognises the work of all partners involved in the Wired Community @ Collingwood project to increase computer literacy and internet access amongst residents of Collingwood’s public housing estate, the largest digital inclusion project in Australia to date.
The award comes at the same time as leading management consultants A.T. Kearney released results of a study on the economic benefits of Infoxchange's digital inclusion projects, predicting the Wired @ Collingwood project will generate close to $7million of benefits over the next four years, and estimating the Atherton Gardens DII to have already benefits to the tune of $5.9million.
Combining extensive research of local residents with analysis of supporting studies from Australia and overseas A.T. Kearney was able to quantify the benefits to residents and the wider community of both the Atherton Gardens and Collingwood digital inclusion projects.
In Atherton Gardens the source of the greatest economic benefit was found to be in education and employment where improved access to technology led to increased use of online resources to study and find work, and improvements in IT and language skills worth an estimated $4.1million.
