The Neighbourhood Advisory Board (NAB) is a tenant and community
committee set up to create a community plan that provides a clear
direction for the types of services required on the estate.
The NAB has a number of themes that it develops initiatives around
through working groups; Health and Wellbeing, Employment Learning
and Enterprise and Community Safety.
The working groups are open to all members of the community and
meeting times can be obtained by calling Marcelle or Mark at the
Fitzroy Housing Office on 9412 7217. People interested in being
on the NAB should also call this number.

Atherton Gardens Public Housing estate commenced Neighbourhood
Renewal activities in May 2002. Early this year, consultations
occurred with residents and relevant agencies to draft a Community
Action Plan which identified need for improvement in the following
priority areas:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Education, learning and Economic Development
- Community safety
- Housing and the Physical environment
A key component of Neighbourhood Renewal at Atherton Gardens
has been the formation of the Neighbourhood Advisory Board and
working groups. The Neighbourhood Advisory Board is a committee
of persons committed to seeing the local community have a say
in solving local problems and shaping the direction of change
affecting this neighbourhood.
The Neighbourhood Advisory Board is comprised of 12 residents
from Atherton Gardens and 12 representatives from the local agencies
and organisation that service the estate. Broadly, the purpose
of the Neighbourhood Advisory Board is to implement activities
which strengthen community well-being here at the Atherton Gardens
Public Housing Estate.
Sitting beneath the Neighbourhood Advisory Board are 3 working
groups:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Education, learning and Enterprise
- Community Safety
Working groups have meet for an initial briefing session and
are in the process of developing proposals based on the priorities
set by the local community.
Membership of the working groups is open to all Atherton Gardens
residents. If you would like to have an input into the projects
being developed by the working groups and want to work with other
residents and representatives of local agencies to bring about
positive change for this neighbourhood, please contact the Fitzroy
Housing Office on 9417 7322.
