The e-ACE Children's Book Review Competition
 |
Do you like books and reading? Tell us about your favourite book, and you could win great prizes. So what are you waiting for? In 500 words or less, answer any or all of the following questions:- What is the name of your favourite book? Who is the author?
- Why do you like the book?
- Who is your favourite character in the book? Why do you like him or her?
- Where is the book set? What do you like about the setting?
- How has the book changed the way you think?
- Do you think your friends would like this book? What would you say to make them want to read it?
- If you had written this book, what would you change?
When you have written your entry, email it to russell@atherton.org.au with your name, age, school year, address and telephone number.
Competition closes 7pm, 17 July 2005.
The competition will be judged by Kirsty Murray, author of popular Australian children's books including Bridie's Fire and Becoming Billie Dare, and by Barbara Tinney, coordinator of HIPPY. YEARS 3-4
First Prize
Tashi by Anne Fienberg and Barbara Fienberg, and Horrible Harriet by Leigh Hobbs.
Second Prize
Tashi and the Dancing Shoes by Anne Fienberg and Barbara Fienberg.
Third Prize
At the Beach – Postcards from Crabby Spit by Roland Harvey.
YEARS 5-6
First Prize
Runestone by Anna Ciddor, and The Cockroach War by Jonathan Harlen.
Second Prize
It’s True! Animals are Electrifyingby Rick Wilkinson.
Third Prize
Astrid Spark, Fixologist by Justin D’Ath.
YEARS 7-9
First Prize
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by JK Rowling, and a Harry Potter merchandise pack.

1. Contestants must be residents of Atherton Gardens Highrise Estate, the Napier Street or Fleet Street flats.
2. Contestants must be students in school years 3 to 9.
3. Only one entry is allowed per contestant.
4. Entries must be entirely original content written by the contestant.
5. Only typed entries received by email will be accepted.
6. Entries will not be returned to contestants. Please keep a copy of your entry for yourself.
7. Entries must be received before 11 July 2005.
8. Winning entries will be decided by a panel of three judges based on criteria of originality, writing style, skill, and content. Chance plays no part in determining the winners of this competition.
9. Winning contestants will be contacted to obtain parental consent to display their entries, first names, ages, and photographs on the Atherton Gardens website.
10. Winning contestants will be notified by email.
