The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating is a contemporary Australian food guide which reflects the multicultural nature of the population and which is relevant for all sectors of the food system to use as a national nutrition education and information tool.
The Guide is based on widely accepted scientific principles and has been informed by the Dietary Guidelines for Australians and the Recommended Dietary Intakes for use in Australia.
The development of the Guide fulfils one of the objectives of the Food and Nutrition policy (1992) which is to help Australians to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to choose a healthy diet; it has not been designed to replace other food guides, but rather to clarify and build on the tools already available to the public.
