The Wellington

Father Ernie Smith, Parish Priest of St Joseph's Collingwood, envisaged The Wellington to be a special place responding to the many and varied needs of its diverse community.

Within the mix of cultures and communities in the northern inner city of Melbourne, The Wellington provides health, well-being and education programs, social activities and a place to meet for locals and new residents of Australia.

No matter who you are or where you come from, by joining in The Wellington’s programs you can spend time with other people and make new friends.

The global community continues to come together in all its colour and diversity as many people from all corners of the world move into Collingwood and its neighbouring suburbs.

Diversity however can sometimes mean isolation, rejection and social disadvantage through cultural and communication barriers. The Wellington brings together this rich tapestry through practical support and social engagement.

In response to the many unmet needs in the community, The Wellington engages in partnerships with other health and community services to deliver care and support programs such as:

  • Hands on Health – Chiropractic Clinic
  • St Joseph’s Primary School Breakfast Program
  • Chinese medicine
  • Acupuncture
  • Collingwood Cottage Foodbank
  • Rosie’s Outreach to Homeless Youth
  • Diabetes Education
  • Community Lunch
  • Counselling (coming soon: appointment necessary)

The Wellington also has an ideal venue for hire for social functions, celebration parties, wedding receptions, forums, conferences and other special events.

It comfortably seats up to 200 people and facilities include kitchen, large stage and courtyard.

Inspections by arrangement are welcome.
